The Dover Quartet, known to Houston audiences from their residency at the Shepherd School of Music, shot to stardom in 2013, sweeping the Banff and earning the Cleveland Quartet Awards in 2016. It is a delight to welcome them back to our stage in this program dedicated to love and longing. Webern wrote his quartet after a romantic vacation with his cousin, with whom he was madly in love, and Berg was inspired by his forbidden love for Hanna Fuchs-Robettin. Schumann's third quartet completes the set of three works he wrote for his beloved wife, Clara’s 23rd birthday, incorporating his pleading and loving "Clara" motif throughout.

“Expert musicianship, razor-sharp ensemble, deep musical feeling and a palpable commitment to communication made their performances satisfying on many levels.”
